Day by day you are learning new things and you never cease to amaze me! Last night your daddy made you smile and then said, "I'm so happy she's more interactive now..." He has yet to learn all the wonders of Emmie...like how you coo at me and smile at the end of your feedings, like you are the happiest baby, and then you'll do this thing where you don't want to me to take you away from my chest, but you are full and don't want to eat, so you just sit there, with a smile on your face, and lick me...I guess I never thought I would laugh at someone licking me, but with you, I'm in love. You've also learned to love sleep--you must take after your mommy in this respect! You have started to do long sleeps at night, about 7 hours at a time, and it amazes me. Sometimes, however, you like to start this LONG stretch at about 7pm which only gets us to 2am...but really, waking up to feed you in the middle of the night is a breeze. I just lazily pick you up from your little co-sleeper (all swaddled like my baby burrito likes) and I plop you in the bed next to me, whip out a boob, stick it in your face, and I nod off while you chow down. Sometimes I wake up and it is three hours later and you're ready for the other side. You love to sleep with you head wedged into my armpit--not sure why, it can't be the smell, but you must feel secure! I never thought I would co-sleep, but it is really just because I am too lazy to wake back up and put you in your co-sleeper bassinet. You always go right back to sleep and then I am awaken by your very predictable grunts in the morning...and no, you're not trying to wake me up, or impersonate the apes in the jungle, you are trying to get the GAS out from the night before because your lazy mommy can't even wake up enough to burp you! So you fart the morning away and smile up at me...you still have your big blue eyes and I think they are getting lighter--maybe you'll get to keep them! If you did it would be cool because everyone says you look just like your daddy, so if I give you my eyes at least I'll have a very visible part in your genetic makeup!
You love your swing, sometimes you even cry being held because you just want us to put you in it. We also bought you a little play mat, we call it the barn, and it has some fun things for you to look up at. You're pretty obsessed with the mirror, vain little baby, and you make the cutest noises! The spitup epidemic has pretty much ended, although sometimes I move you too soon or the wrong way and I am showered in my own breastmilk...yum. Once your daddy was trying to help you out because you were straining to let 'er rip and he push your legs up to your chest...well he helped it all come out the wrong end and the whole family took a boob juice bath!
We took you to the doctors yesterday and you were such a good girl! Dr. G says you're THRIVING! He said the nursing is doing a good thing, you're 12 lbs. 6 oz. and 24 inches (two feet!!) tall! You're in the 87% for weight and the 96% for height, my little basketball player! You hated Dr. G for man handling you, and even more for holding your legs down, and even MORE for the three shots that he gave you, but MAN do you recover quick! As soon as I picked you up for a little cuddle you were back to my sweet girl. I gave you some baby tylenol and you smacked your little lips like you loved it...must be our kid because your daddy and I love grape too! You smile all the time and I just can't wait for the laugh! If there is one thing that you daddy gave you I would hope it would be his laugh! So my little bobble head...you're almost into size 2 diapers, you're almost into 3-6mos. clothing, and you SMILE at me...you're getting so OLD! I love every minute and I can't wait to spend a lifetime with you!
Love,
Mommy
