One month ago today we welcomed your little body into the world. You gave us quite a run for our money...with some scary ultrasounds, then a scary dip in the heart rate, and then your low birth weight and low glucose levels...I guess when you play you play hard! You're here though, and doing so well! You're gaining like a champ and I can't wait to see what you weigh when we got to your check up on Wednesday--although I'm not looking forward to you screaming bloody murder when they poke and prod you...at least no shots and no heel pricks, just cold doctor hands pushing and pulling on you.
You are quite the little screamer and make you desires well known...but today we have had a major breakdown and I found a happy little boy in there--a boy who spits a lot, but a happy one nonetheless! You nurse like a champ but unfortunately (no fault of yours) you were getting too much milk too fast so that made you scream and holler and in general when you were awake and fed you were not happy...like most babies. Well today we figured out how to slow things down a bit and I didn't hear one pained cry...I didn't hold you through any archy back tantrums...and daddy even refrained from saying you sounded like an angry jihad (I have no idea how to spell that). So things might be looking up for month two!
Everyone thinks you are just too cute. You're starting to fit into some of your newborn sized clothes and it is fun to see you looking more like a little person....plus as a mommy I was getting sick of the Gerber sleep and plays that zip up the front...but you have to wear what fits, right? Your sister has some of the funniest things to say to you...lately when we ask her, "What is baby Chase?" she whispers..."A baby human!" Too cute! She also loves to say to you..."Hi Big Boy!!" She teaches you how to sign and gets mad when you can't do it back yet...she tries to feed you juice and strawberries...but then remembers that you "have to get bigger" and "you need milkies until you have teeth..." You're going to have so much fun with her as you get bigger...you'll have to do something about her beating on you, though...!
What is this thing, Mom?
Ahhhh....it is relaxing...whatever it is....
Wait a minute, no it isn't, I hate it!!!! I'm HUNGRY!
You're awake and happy more often these days...usually for a good hour in the morning, another one in the afternoon, and about two hours at night. I lay you on a blanket and Emmie and I have a "picnic" around you and stare at you while you stare back. You love to kick and wiggle and make cute faces at us. Emmie is trying to teach you all that she knows...you don't get it all quite yet, but I know you're learning! You love to lie on my chest...and we know you're hungry when you bob your head around on our shoulders like a little bobble head doll. You're tongue tied just like you sister and your daddy....I swear I'm going to be able to find my family in a crowd just by saying...stick out your tongue...oh, you can't...you must be mine! I'm so excited to get to know your personality (other than being mad and crying) and to see what kind of a kid you are...but I also want to freeze this time of sweet smelling baby who loves to cuddle all day and all night.
We all love you, little boy! Here's to another month of growing and changing and discovering all that we can about you!
Love,
Mommy (Daddy, and Emmie too!)
