Hi Ms. 2-year-old!
I feel like as time marches on you are changing and growing, but it is slowing a bit. You know how to walk and talk and potty and climb...now it is the little things that change. You tell funny little jokes and stories and it is in the new things you say and think about that I have to notice differences now. It seems like when you were little there were major things happening left and right--rolling, crawling, first teeth, etc. This month you skinned your knee for the first time...super minor, not even any blood to write home about, but you cried and kept saying, "What happened to me?" all full of concern. You really have a caring heart, you often will ask what has happened to someone over and over and over so that they can tell you their tale of woe (I hurt my knee, got burned, got a bruise, etc.) and even if they told you just three seconds ago and you have said, "I'm sorry you got hurt," you'll repeat the apology with the utmost sincerity--too cute.
You have mastered all aspects of the swingset in just a month and I wonder if it is the best thing I ever did for your gross motor skills. Since the swingset it seems as though you are getting on and off furniture a little easier, going up and down stairs with a little more grace, and just doing better in general with your body. This month you learned to catch! Daddy throws a ball and says, "Catch it, Emmie," and you put your little arms out in front of you and when it bounces off of your belly you hug it to you and catch it--that impressed us both!
You discovered the love of ice cream, popsicles, and lollipops--bad mommy--and you can sit and enjoy a movie every once in a while with us now. You love to snuggle, but you're starting to protest bed. You've decided that bedtime is more around 9pm rather than 7pm but that's ok because it means you sleep until 8am. You still nap but will often say, "I'm NOT sleepy," right before closing your eyes. You nap for about 2-3 hours and constantly wake up sweaty...your pillow even smells bad and you can thank Daddy for that gene! I love to watch you interact with other kids now, and people in general. You are often shy and quiet with people to start and they think, "Oh my, she's so quiet!!" and then about 10 minutes after meeting them you are talking, dancing and singing them songs.
You did way more eating than actual picking...well I guess you had to pick and then eat...
You love to wear dresses and sunglasses and hats and you seem overall terribly more girly than I ever was. We're still waiting for that hair to grow, missy! It is getting longer, but more curly at the same time so it appears to be the same length. You've gotten 100 times better at brushing your teeth and letting me help and we go back to the dentist in August. You HATED the doctor's visit this month and screamed and carried on from the moment you set foot on the scale...? I knew you wouldn't like the blood draw, but I put some numbing cream on you before we went and even though you were crying because the nurses were holding you down you didn't scream harder or flinch when the actual needle went in so I think that it worked! You've become a lot more interested in your brother and want to talk with him and sing to him and often proclaim, "He smiled at me!" I can't wait to see your relationship with him grow and change over the years!
That first face you make often...and then say, "Bye, Daddy..." in this funny low voice.
You love love love books so we are taking about 6 out of the library at a time and we read the same books over and over until it is time to go back and exchange. This week we have Moosetache, Billy's Bucket, Silly Sally, Noisy Nora, More More More, and Three Dots. I think you like Billy's Bucket best! I can't tell you how happy I am to be finally reading books with stories to them...I was getting tired of the first word books and the color books and the short and simple sing-songy books that we have read for the last two years! I can say Pat the Bunny and Goodnight Moon by heart and often do. You still love The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear and made me recite it to you in the strawberry patch when we were picking.
You're a drama queen...the above happened in that order in about 3 seconds!
The funniest thing that I think happened this month is your heightened (or realized?) sense of smell. It happened the day that the plaster men came to put the walls up in the basement...I brought you down to see and you said, "What's it smell like?" I told you it smelled like plaster and you said, "Yuck, I don't like plaster." You also got some new undies from the Children's Place and they smelled like plastic packaging...you continued to pick them up and ask, "What do they smell like?" And now you toot or go poop and give a big sniff and say, "It smells like poopies!" We visited grandma and grandpa's pool (Mike's parents) and you asked Grandma's friend Donna what she smelled like--she laughed and you asked again! You also crinkle up your nose and wave your arms up and down and say, "I'm like a sting ray, Mommy!" You come up with some good ones, kid! Keep them coming!
Love you more each day,
Mommy
