Dear Emerson (23 months)

__________________________________________________________________

Hi Big Sister!

Whenever I am holding baby Chase this is how we greet you...maybe you think we've changed your name! I can't believe you are almost 2. I look at you and see my sweet sweet baby girl turning into a big girl before my eyes. I am excited to see what funny and new things you come up with each day, but a little sad that you are growing up so fast. Today when I was rocking you before your nap you said, "Put me in my cribey." I left thinking...she's growing up...but then you called to me and asked me to come back in and you needed to pee, then you needed a sandwich, and then you let me rock you. I will be happy when you can fall asleep on your own, but I will miss our days of rocking together. I wonder when you're too old to cuddle with your mom because I want to mark that day on the calendar and get as much in before then as humanly possible.

You are getting excited that Chase is awake more and more and love to proclaim with every little noise that he makes that, "He's PUKIN', MOMMY!" You love to hold him and cuddle him and kiss him and tickle him on his head with your scratchy nails which drives me up a wall...you like me to pinch his cheeks and say, "BLUB BLUB BLUB," to which you respond, "He's like a FISH!" Thank goodness he is now too heavy for you to pick up, when he first came home I think you could have thrown him across the room, but now he's bigger and you can only move him a little bit.

We reached a HUGE milestone this month....you're wearing big girl undies. I was sick of throwing away perfectly dry diapers and you've been asking for the potty since you were 13 months old...but I finally bit the bullet and got you the pants. Carter's 2/3's are too big for you, they're baggy and saggy all over, but you love them. You've only had a couple accidents and all were while we were out of the house...once it was in the 1.5 hour car ride after mommy fed you a bowl of ice (DOH) the next was when you fell and smacked your chin at Kangamamas and I picked you up and you lost it....once yesterday because we forgot your potty seat and you were too scared of the big potty so you held it as long as you could but couldn't handle it after another glass of iced tea that you begged for....today so far so good no accidents and you are down for a nap for the first time in your undies because you wake up dry anyway. I think this is much more about mommy training than you!!

You're talking more and more and putting things together that I never would have thought....we were singing this song that your talking potty (never used it once, just play with it) sings about toilet paper and you said..."Hey, that's Thumbkin's song...." and sure enough it is to the same tune...you did the same thing with Twinkle Twinkle and the ABC's....and when we were driving down in Providence you said, "What's that big city?" when we were going through downtown so I told you it was Providence and that Emmie was born in Providence so you kept pointing out the window saying, "I was born over dere?" "I was born over dere, Mommy?" Until we reached Warwick and I could tell you that we were no longer in Providence...too funny! We also realized that Mommy, Daddy and Chase were born in Massachusetts so you're the odd ball with the Rhode Island birth!

You love animals and get mad at Noah's kitty when it won't stay to play with you. You want to go to Ellie's house just to see her puppies...and yesterday when we went to get your first ever ice cream cone you wanted to go and see the sheep and goats at Kimball farm instead. You love sherbet, though and call it, "Shernie and Bert." You love love love your bath and want to take one whenever you think about it....in Mary's bathroom yesterday sitting on the potty you were scared of you said, "Move that...(talking about the shower curtain)" and when I did you said, "Ooooh, Emmie can take a bath?" Maybe you just wanted to pee in there....but it was cute. You love Nicholas, but babies your age and smaller tend to scare you...you jump up from where ever you are when we are at the park and they approach you....and often you'll have a terrified look on your face and duck behind my legs. Don't really know what that is about...you're also getting so 2 in your antics...if someone has something you want you'll yell, "THAT'S MINE," or, "GIVE IT TO ME," or "IT'S MY TURN NOW..." We're working on your nice voice and you can quickly correct yourself, but it is a little startling to hear! Papa says it is good to assert yourself, but I assure him that it is embarrassing at playgroups and at the park when your little voice is commanding everyone! You hate to have your hair washed now and melt down no matter how I try to do it. I can't end on that negative note....so let's see...you know when your birthday is...when I ask you say, "June E-Yeventh...we eat CAKE and put balloons into the sky!" You love to sing and you often make me sing with you. You're getting a swing set on June 4th and you are super excited. And last but not least you LOVE dandelions and reading books!

You're napping now and so is your brother so your tired mama is going to go and try to find a pillow to put her head on...just know that no matter how tired I am or how demanding you are I will love you forever and always no matter what. I can't believe you are my daughter...I am so lucky!

Love you,
Mommy

P.S. Someday you'll kill me for this one....but big girl panties and plumber's bum cracks me up...also, you love saying, "Oh, my bum crack!"
