Dear Emerson (26 months),

Dear Emerson Grace Duval, (I forgot to post this one, oops!)

You often say, "What is my full name?" and then tell the world instead of waiting for an answer. One day you asked Daddy, "What's my full name," and he said, "Emerson Grace Duval," and then you said, "Now how do I say it in Spanish?" Too cute! You love language, reading, music, art, and dancing...but you also love your soccer ball and shin guards (from Auntie Jenny), climbing on your swingset, getting muddy in the garden (and eating the cherry tomatoes) and being outside. You're not too fond of bugs, still, and I'm not sure how you went from the little girl who would get down on the ground to get a closer look to the squealing girl who wants the bugs to leave her alone.

You love shoes and dresses and tutus and crowns and often proclaim that you are a princess. You love to make dresses out of your play silks and then tell me you are going to a wedding with me...and then in the next minute you are wearing a silk on your head and proclaiming you are a pirate--argh. You have a super imagination and I wish I could just jump inside your brain for one day and see what you think about--the wheels are always turning.

You're still a pretty good eater, but you're getting too busy to slow down and eat a full meal now. You snack more often than eat which I guess is good for the metabolism anyway. You love going to the beach, but you're not too sure of the waves in the ocean yet and once one touched your foot and you paniced and fell down and then proclaimed that you were knocked down by a wave. Silly girl. You love your baby pool (but not when there are bugs in there) and you love your beach ball sprinkler (but only when Mommy runs in with you!) You have a mind of your own, that's for sure. You love to try and boss me around, sometimes I let you, and sometimes I remind you to ask nicely and you have the cutest "nice" voice I have ever heard. I know you're just learning how to express yourself and deal with all of those emotions that you have that sometimes feel like they're too big for your little body. Somedays when you don't get things your way you will dramatically lie down on the floor and put your face in your hands with your butt sticking straight up, it's hard not to laugh at you!

You still love to cuddle and snuggle with us and lately with Baby Chase, too. Sometimes you practice being loud and even if I'm holding Chase right next to you and you can see that he is awake you'll put your finger to your lips and say..."Shhhh...that might wake Chasey up!" You're very protective of him and don't really like other people holding him or talking to him, but we're working on that. You're excited about the "beautiful basement" that Papa made for you and I can't wait until we can play down there with all of your toys!

Keep growing and changing, my love, you're too cute for words!

Mommy
