Dear Chase (14 months),

______________________________________________________

Dear Chasifer,

Listen, Mr. Sicky, we need to have a talk with that immune system of yours. This week I got a little cold, maybe two days of sniffles and a sore throat and it went away...Emmie got it, same thing...you get it and all hell breaks loose! You're coughing, you eyes are watering, you're drooling, your diapers are filled with some crazy science experiment and now you've added puking and a fever into the mix. Along with this little illness you found a new scream which is often accompanied by you colapsing in a boneless heap or arching your back when I am putting you down or taking something (the computer mouse) that you feel is rightfully yours...life is certainly interesting! Now that I'm done venting...you really are a sweet sweet boy when you're not sick. You're adventurous and often you leave Emmie and I to go and explore toys and dangerous things to climb on on your own. You love to move and climb and dance and wiggle...and you're the world's best cuddler. You have your internal heater in a constant state of ON and often kick off the blankets at night and sweat sweat sweat. Actually, when you do sweat you get cute little beads of perspiration on your nose and funny enough I find them adorable.

You love anything that has wheels. You love to push things with wheels, ride on things with wheels, you grunt at things with wheels...in general, if it has wheel you WANT it. You don't really have too much to say yet, still the basic mama (usually whined at me when I am walking away), dadda, hot, MmmmmmMmmmm, and ooohhh (said when you are intersted in something) and "ahooo?" when you put my cellphone to your ear. This month you have graduated to walking most places. It took you a long time to want to let go of things and trust that your own two feet would carry you...two months to be exact...but now you practically run! Life this summer is going to be so much fun, we've been to a couple museums and now that you can walk and climb you and your sister can spend a whole morning there just playing...mommy bliss when I'm finding all of our toys are too boring!

You've just figured out what it means to be jealous....if you sister is sitting in my lap or holding onto me you will try to push her away, pinch her, or wiggle your way in between her and me...it's totally normal and fine and even kind of cute to be wanted so much and Emmie felt the same way when she was your age crying and signing HELP anytime I hugged daddy. You're getting better about reading books...it used to be that if the books didn't have flaps to keep you entertained you couldn't be bothered....now you love looking at books that have things in them for you to point to. It goes something like this, I open the book and you say, "DAT, DAT, DAT," pointing with your whole hand at different things on the page. I'm down with that! You LOVE to be outside and get excited when I put on your shoes. You like the swing, but you prefer to climb and slide down than sitting in the swing watching the world go by.

You're loving food lately...mostly fruits and veggies and smoothies but we're working on getting some other higher calorie foods in you too...you're gaining weight and growing a little but you're still pretty small. That's ok, either you'll catch up someday or you won't, and that's ok too, the important part is that you love life (you do) and you know that we love you (we do, a ton!) Sleep is going a bit better too...maybe sleep and food are related to the Prevacid you started taking this month, or maybe your body was just ready to eat more and sleep more. You take one nap a day around 12:30pm...I nurse and rock you and plop you in your crib on your tummy and you sleep for about 2-3 hours. Sometimes you have a hard time falling asleep and back in the Amby bed you go to be bounced, but for the most part you're a tummy sleeper in your crib. You used to wake up about 5-6 times a night, now you go to bed at around 6:45pm and wake first around midnight and again and 3am and then when your sister comes in to wake us all up around 7am...that seems like a major deal to me and I'm feeling good with a little extra sleep!

Emmie says: You slide down my slide, you like to go in your high chair and your jumper (not really), you sign blue and tree, and you like it when I kiss you but sometimes you make the grunt sound for me to stop.

The pictures in the striped one piece thing are from yesterday....you weren't feeling well and it's funny because when people used to tell me in the studio that they could see that their kid wasn't feeling well in pictures I never got it, but now I know that you do look tired and miserable in these pics even though they are cute...BTW, that outfit is a 6-9 month outfit from Carters...grow baby, grow!!

We love you Chasey-roo!
Mommy

This is how you ride...Emmie is standing on the trunk and I'm pushing...I think you know just how cool you are!
