Hi Jelly Bean!
It feels like overnight you turned from a baby into a little kid. You walk 100% of the time now and crawl just to be silly! You went from signing to get your point across to talking...and then if we don't listen, don't hear you, or don't understand the word you'll add the sign. The other night at a meeting you made your point when you asked for "Milk-a-milk-a-milk" and then decided since I wasn't giving it to you that you would sign it...and then when I still wasn't lifting my shirt in front of clients you just pulled at my shirt until I took you to your room for some milk-a-milk and bedtime. You have opinions and needs, as always, but you're so much more efficient at getting your point across.
Some words that you can say and sign...mommy, daddy, baby, cat, doggy, horse, cow, duck, pig, baaaaa, bunny, butterfly, fish, hyena, lion, tiger, mouse, goat, donkey, bull, bear, giraffe, monkey, rhino, owl, buggie, book, read, owl, banana, apple, milk, cookie, beans, peas, berries, cheese, hot, hat, me, Emmie, yum, cars, truck, happy, flower, potty, poop, pee, shoes socks, outside, otherside, weeee (swings), blocks, "signingtime" (siiightim), mail, meow, ruff, mwah (kiss), rawr, tweet-tweet, whoa, hello, chair, table, thirsty....you know what, this is getting out of control. I think there comes a point in time where you just have to stop counting the words and this month is it! Favorite activity is looking in a book and pointing out what mommy says....eagle, ostrich, zebra...I ask you where they all are and you point to them and are the proudest little thing I've seen.
You say and sign butterfly
You point at it to make sure I know where to look.
You loves rocks. Holding them. Throwing them. Putting them in a cup. Sitting on them if they are big enough. Climbing on them, again, if they're big enough. Talking about them. Finding them in books. I think it's why you think it is so funny to put your baby in the big rocking chair and say, "Rocky, rocky, rocky...."
You're not easy to photograph anymore, but when you say smile or happy, you'll do a big huge cheesy grin. I didn't think one year olds could fake smile, but you've got it down.
You're doing well with the potty...I should say I'm doing well...you were always doing well. You would sign potty, or go to the bathroom and get it for me and silly mommy would think you were just playing with it...now I know when you get it or signs potty that means you have to go....gee that was a hard one to figure out! You can laugh at me about that later, ok?
You've got the whining thing down too....when I'm on the computer you squint up your eyes at me and make fussy noises...and if you can get to my hand you pull my finger and say, "This way, this way," like I do when I redirect you...if that doesn't work you pull on my legs and say sit, sit, sit and then bang on the keyboard when I let you up unless you can watch the kittens on youtube.com...then you're happy.
Examining the buggie on your arm...he flew away and you were sad!
Bedtime is a challenge...I think you think you're missing something going on out here, but if editing weddings is really your cup of tea, there all yours! You wriggle and squirm when I rock you so I put you in the crib, you lie down and say night night and then pop up laughing...you cry to be picked up...I pick you up and we rock, you wriggle to be put down. On a good night you're in bed at 7:30 and it only took 5 minutes, on a tough night you're in bed at 9 and it took a whole hour and a half. You're only little once, though, so we'll get through it. I do envy the babies who go in their crib without fuss, lay down, and wake up when they're rested...how do those moms get them to do that?
You kiss everything...you kiss acorns, your juice box, your freckle (which you call a gecko), your dolls and bath toys...everything...and your kiss is always accompanied by a big loud MWAAAAH....it's cute I tell you, cute!
Ok, love, Mommy is tired and has 5 weddings waiting to be edited...I can't wait to see what the next month brings!
Love you!
Mommy
